What will you do in Sapporo during
the World Cup?
W杯で札幌に来る外国人に聞きました。「札幌でしたいことは？」

I'm coming to Sapporo to see England beat Argentina
because I was born in England. Besides that
I will go shopping for an MD player, and also
check out the clothes shops. I heard the noodles
are pretty good! Drinking! There are hooligans
in every country (including Japan). It's just
the way they manifest themselves.
イングランド・チームがアルゼンチンに勝つのを見に行くんだ。だって僕はイングランド人だから。その他にはMDプレーヤーを買いに行ったり、洋服も見に行きたい。ヌードル（ラーメン？）もうまいらしいね。飲みにも行きたい！フーリガンなんて、どこの国にだっている（日本も含めてね）。自分たちを誇示する１つの方法なんだよ。

As a member of the England Fan Club, all we
want to do in Japan is support England on the
way to the World Cup final, and enjoy ourselves.
I would like to get photos with as many different
soccer fans from the competing countries as
possible. Yes, there are hooligans in England
(they are a very tiny minority), but it must
be very highly stressed that by far the majority
of fans hate hooliganism and violence of any
kind and love their football.
日本では、イングランド・ファンクラブのメンバーとして、決勝戦までイングランドを応援したいことに尽きる。札幌には１人で行くけど、きっと気の合うサッカーファン仲間に出会うと思う。できるだけ沢山の、出場国のファン達と一緒に記念撮影をしたい。イギリスにフーリガンはいるけど（ごく少数だよ）、ほとんどのファンたちはフーリガンも、どんな暴力も嫌っていることを強調しておきたい。ただサッカーを愛しているだけなんだ。

I will watch the game Germany versus Saudi Arabia
in Sapporo although I'm not really a soccer
fan. I'll have my normal sightseeing tour --
there is so much to do in Sapporo and Hokkaido:
hot springs, Lilac festival, concerts, good
food (chanko, crabs), Sapporo Beer Garden. I
think "hooligan" is like "gaijin"
-- a term that is not positive and implies a
problem. The difference between hooligans and
avid fans is very great and I don't know if
there is a distinction being made. I would like
to tell soccer fans to respect Japanese customs.
So please relax. It's only a week, and Yosakoi
Soran is coming!
私は特別サッカーファンではないけれど、札幌でドイツ対サウジアラビアの試合を観戦します。それから大いに観光を楽しむ予定
― 温泉、ライラック祭り、コンサート、ちゃんこ鍋、蟹、ビアガーデン･･･。フーリガンって「ガイジン」っていう概念と似ていると思う。どちらもポジティブなイメージがなく、問題を引き起こすものだと思われている。フーリガンと熱烈なファンとは全く別ものなのに、ちゃんと区別がされていないね。観戦に行くサッカーファンには日本の習慣を尊重してもらいたい。でも札幌の人達はもっとリラックスして。たった一週間のお祭りだし、その後すぐ「よさこいソーラン祭り」だってあるよ。

I'm visiting Sapporo for the first time to see
my brother and watch the Saudi football match.
Of course I'm supporting Saudi Arabia because
it's my country. (By the way, there are no hooligans
in all the Arab countries.) And I will go to
electronics shops and buy a digital camera.
I would also like to try traditional Japanese
food. I would like to tell other soccer fans
to play fair.
札幌に住んでいる兄に会うためと、サウジアラビア戦を見るために、初めて札幌に行きくんだ。Ｗ杯で応援する国？
母国、サウジアラビアに決まっているよ！フーリガン？ アラブ諸国にはフーリガンなんて１人もいないよ。札幌では電器店にデジカメを買いに行きたい。いろんな日本食にもトライしてみたいね。それからサッカーファンの皆さん、フェア・プレイをしようね。
