What can't you ask Japanese face
to face?

American
Why can't Japanese be straight with me? I often
feel left in the dark, as though I'm having
to guess what's really on their mind. Also,
why can't they share their feelings more with
others? When they don't, I feel shut out and
hurt; I'm also sometimes embarrassed because
I stick my foot in my mouth about something
when I don't know the truth.

British
I have been wondering for 11 years what that
"Kasutera 1-ban, Denwa wa 2-ban" song
(from the TVcake commercial) mean. No one has
given me an answer.

British
Seeing white people, why do Japanese people
think that they are all Americans?

Chinese
When do Japanese people complain to their
boss at work?

Russian
Why the Japanese consider their country so unique.
All countries like to think that they are special.
The Japanese, however, often go to extremes
in defending their uniqueness. "We are
a small island nation" (shima guni) - a
phrase heard repeatedly in Japan. When compared
to the US, Canada, or Russia, of course, Japan
looks small. But take Great Britain for instance.
The same "shima guni". As for European
countries (Germany, France, etc.) Japan appears
comparable in size. So, Japan's uniqueness is
exaggerated.

Bulgarian
How can you sit in seiza (a kneel) for a long
time and still stay normal? Don't you get tired?

Australian
I have never dared ask this question to anyone,
but it's always there... lurking around in my
subconsciousness: Do Japanese men really have
small penises? There... I said it!! I'm not
sure I want an answer... I have heard from a
few people (Japanese) that this is the case....
I have never dared ask... but at the urinals
in restaurants or karaoke shops, men always
seem drawn to comparisons. |
